Simple, compliant invoicing platform for freelancers and small businesses.
This is the story of Billivo for VeriFactu, our first Code10 product with no direct link to SAP. However, it still aligns with our strengths. It builds on integration, compliance, and product delivery. Therefore, we believe it opens the door to more applications. Now, let’s explain what happened chronologically.

Billivo: Why now and Spain’s Regulatory Context
Spain recently introduced a new invoicing regulation. It affects businesses and freelancers across the country. The framework is called VeriFactu, and it sets rules for billing systems and record submission. Therefore, Billivo for VeriFactu helps small companies and freelancers stay compliant.
At Code10, we have deep eCompliance experience worldwide. However, our solutions have traditionally centered on SAP. We implement SAP standard capabilities and extend them through our eCompliance Hub. In addition, we cover legislations beyond SAP’s catalog, including TicketBAI and SAF-T in Lithuania and Poland. We also integrate directly with each tax agency. Consequently, this expertise shapes Billivo for VeriFactu.
We also build electronic invoicing for non-SAP systems. Even so, with VeriFactu we chose a different approach. We wanted to reach a completely new audience. Therefore, we created Billivo for VeriFactu to serve them.
This time, our focus was not large corporations. Instead, we aimed for simplicity and full legal compliance. We also prioritized ease of use and affordability. Therefore, Billivo for VeriFactu fits small businesses and freelancers. Many face a real technology gap. Crucially, the tool fits existing processes. Yet it helps them modernize while staying compliant with the new rules.
What we wanted to build for VeriFactu?
- Billivo for VeriFactu is fully cloud-based, with strong security and easy scalability.
- The app is accessible on the web and as native iOS and Android applications.
- It is affordable and can attract many customers while helping them grow.
- The platform is fast and simple, enabling invoice creation in seconds with stored customer and product data.
How we built Billivo for VeriFactu compliance?
The first step was choosing the right infrastructure. We needed a cloud provider with a full range of services. It had to be scalable, secure, and cost-efficient. Moreover, early-stage costs had to stay low. They should then grow gradually as usage increases.
For that reason, we chose AWS. Together with our partners at Upstood, we built the platform that powers Billivo for VeriFactu using best practices. We used services such as Amplify, API Gateway, Lambda, and EKS. Additionally, we will cover the technical setup in a future post.
For the backend, we chose Node.js. For the frontend, we selected React Native. This choice lets us create native applications for Android and iOS. Furthermore, the stack accelerates delivery while keeping maintenance predictable.
This first experience building cloud-native applications outside the SAP ecosystem was a success. It adds value to our company and opens the door to new customers. Moreover, it lets us offer an additional service to existing clients. As a result, Billivo for VeriFactu broadens our reach and capabilities.
What is Billivo?
Billivo for VeriFactu is now live, and we have used it internally for months. The platform is light and simple to use. First, set up your invoice, proforma, and credit note number ranges. Then you can issue invoices with just a few clicks.
To speed up the process, Billivo lets you create catalogs of customers and products or services. As a result, generating an invoice takes seconds. You simply select the customer and the product or service.
You can save invoices as drafts. Once you confirm them, the system assigns an invoice number and sends the invoice to the Spanish Tax Agency. Therefore, submission is automatic and consistent.
Every legal invoice includes a QR code. It links to the Spanish Tax Agency as proof of submission. Consequently, verification is quick and reliable.
Another useful feature is email delivery in PDF format. The PDF includes the QR code and the mandatory legal text required by the VeriFactu regulation. In addition, Billivo for VeriFactu keeps this text updated.
Customers can log in to the Billivo platform at any time. They can download invoices from any supplier using Billivo. Therefore, access is simple for both sides.
As a result, Billivo for VeriFactu becomes a central hub. Freelancers and small businesses can exchange invoices easily and securely. Moreover, they remain compliant without changing existing processes.
Billivo for developers: APIs for VeriFactu
Billivo is ideal for freelancers and small businesses without an ERP. However, we also wanted to address other scenarios.
Recently, we launched Billivo for Developers. It is a set of APIs to integrate Billivo with other software. Therefore, teams can extend Billivo for VeriFactu beyond standalone use. We offer two main options:
- ERP integrations (invoice generation supported): If an ERP generates invoices but lacks required VeriFactu elements, our API fills the gap. It receives the invoice, submits it to the Spanish Tax Agency, and stores it in Billivo for VeriFactu. Consequently, you get the same benefits as native invoices in Billivo. The ERP must ensure a compliant, continuous number range. Accordingly, we sign a responsibility agreement to meet Spanish Tax Agency standards.
- Other software (no invoice generation): If your software does not generate invoices, our API lets Billivo for VeriFactu create them end to end, including numbering. This removes legal constraints, because the entire process happens within Billivo. As a result, compliance becomes simpler under the VeriFactu rules.
One more thing…
We want Billivo to become a platform for freelancers and small businesses across industries. Therefore, we are adding vertical solutions to Billivo for VeriFactu.
- Billivo for Drivers: an exclusive app for taxi and private drivers. Moreover, it simplifies ticket and invoice creation from the phone with just a few clicks.
- Billivo for Retail: a dedicated app for stores. Additionally, it acts as a POS integrated with a barcode scanner.
These features are part of the next evolution of Billivo for VeriFactu. Furthermore, they are coming very soon. So, stay tuned.
