ATS Ecuador: Tax Reporting Compliance Guide

Let’s talk

Structuring Transactional Tax Reporting through Ecuador’s ATS

The Anexo Transaccional Simplificado is a structured tax report used by the Servicio de Rentas Internas to collect detailed information on purchases, sales, imports, exports, VAT and withholding activity. Taxpayers in scope must prepare the annex according to SRI catalogues and technical specifications and submit it electronically through SRI en Línea. For finance and tax teams, reliable source data and consistent classification are essential to produce an accurate ATS file.

Key Implementation Dates

Main milestones behind ATS in Ecuador and the reporting framework currently maintained by the SRI.

13/01/2012

Resolution NAC-DGERCGC12-00001 established the Anexo Transaccional Simplificado, defining the taxpayers required to submit transactional information, the reportable data and the applicable filing deadlines.

22/02/2016

Resolution NAC-DGERCGC16-00000092 introduced the ATS version of electronic documents, allowing qualifying information already reported through compliant electronic receipts to be excluded from the corresponding ATS purchase and sales modules.

09/06/2022

Resolution NAC-DGERCGC22-00000024 expanded mandatory electronic document issuance and required qualifying withholding agents to implement electronic withholding receipts in the ATS version.

ATS Ecuador Overview

Implementation

Mandatory transactional reporting obligation for taxpayers included within the scope defined by SRI regulations. Filing is generally monthly, although a different periodicity may apply in specific cases or tax regimes.

Tax Authority

Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI).

Format

Structured XML file prepared according to the current SRI catalogue, technical specifications and XSD schema, then submitted electronically through SRI en Línea.

Not applicable as an electronic invoice signature requirement. ATS is submitted as a structured tax annex through the SRI’s electronic filing channel.

Supporting accounting and transactional records must generally be retained for at least 7 years under Ecuadorian tax record-keeping rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs to file ATS in Ecuador?

ATS must be filed by taxpayers included in the categories defined by SRI regulations, including certain companies, special taxpayers, public-sector entities and other taxpayers required to report detailed transactional information. The exact obligation depends on the taxpayer’s classification and applicable tax rules, so businesses should verify their status against the current SRI requirements.

What information is reported in ATS Ecuador?

ATS includes detailed information on purchases, sales, imports, exports, credit and debit notes, VAT and withholding transactions. The file is built using coded fields and catalogues defined by the SRI, so customer, supplier, tax and document data must be correctly structured before submission.

Is ATS in Ecuador filed monthly or semiannually?

ATS is generally filed monthly by taxpayers within scope. Semiannual filing may apply in specific cases or tax regimes where the SRI expressly provides for that periodicity. Companies should confirm the applicable frequency based on their taxpayer classification rather than relying only on the available file-generation templates.

Is ATS the same as electronic invoicing in Ecuador?

No. Electronic invoicing governs the generation, signature, transmission and authorization of tax documents, while ATS is a separate transactional report submitted to the SRI. Invoice data may feed the ATS file, but issuing compliant electronic invoices does not replace the reporting obligation.

What should companies review before implementing ATS in SAP?

Companies should review taxpayer scope, filing frequency, purchase and sales flows, imports and exports, VAT and withholding configuration, master data quality, required ATS fields, catalogue mappings, XML generation and submission controls. They should also define validation and reconciliation procedures before the file is sent to the SRI.

Can ATS Ecuador be managed through SAP or another ERP?

Yes. SAP or another ERP can support ATS when the required transactional and tax information is available, correctly mapped and transformed into the XML structure expected by the SRI. An automated process can reduce manual preparation, improve consistency and provide better traceability between the source records and the submitted annex.

Managing Ecuador ATS Reporting in SAP

ATS depends on consistent purchase, sales, VAT, import, export and withholding data across the company’s accounting and tax systems. In SAP or other ERP environments, the main challenge is ensuring that the required fields are available, correctly classified and traceable before the XML file is generated and submitted to the SRI.
